Press Release for 7 Sep 1998
Stairways Software releases Anarchie Pro 3.0
Stairways Software Pty Ltd, today announced the release of Anarchie Pro - version 3.0 of the premiere Macintosh file transfer client. With new support for the web (HTTP), offline browsing, mirroring, resumed transfers and remote file editing - it has positioned itself as a broad and essential tool for every Internet user.
Anarchie Pro is the preeminent Internet file transfer client for the Macintosh. It lets you browse web & FTP sites, upload or download files, mirror remote folders, download entire web sites, edit remote files and find files using Archie, Mac Search or Site Indexing.
Anarchie Pro now integrates seamlessly with Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer. It makes the perfect companion to your browser, to give you total control over the web with its exciting new web link extraction and listing mechanisms.
Anarchie Pro is a mature, robust and reliable application suitable for everyone from power users to Internet novices.
New features include:
- Web Listing - Anarchie Pro can now download, extract, sort and list the links contained in a web page.
- Web downloads - Download files and web pages from web sites. Now you can do all your downloading in Anarchie Pro.
- Mirror Upload - Maintain your web or FTP site from a local folder while Anarchie Pro uploads only the changed files and deletes files that are no longer used.
- Get Entire Web Site - Download an entire web site for local viewing or just to see how it all fits together.
- Resume failed FTP and web transfers. Assuming the server supports it, you should be able to abort and restart transfers without having to download the entire file again.
- Edit with BBEdit - Edit remote FTP files with BBEDIT transparently. Now you can edit your HTML and CGI files on your web server with BBEdit on your Mac.
- Switch web browsers to use Anarchie Pro for FTP. Tired of unreliable FTP transfers in your web browser? Have the web browser hand the FTP links to Anarchie Pro and surf them the way they were meant to be surfed.
- Apple Internet Access Detector actions to use Anarchie Pro for FTP and web. Using contextual menus you can hand off FTP or web links to Anarchie Pro from any program that supports AIADs.
- Sounds on start/finish download - so you can hear when those long transfers finish.
- Support for Appearance and Themes.
- Save passwords in bookmarks. People have wanted this for years, but there are serious security issues, so Anarchie Pro also:
- Supports the Keychain (a forthcoming Apple feature) for securely saving passwords. Save all your passwords in the secure Keychain.
- Reorganised menus. Anarchie Pro has evolved over many years and many versions. It was time to reorganise the menus to better reflect how people use the program.
- Internet Config override that maps http://*.bin/hqx/sit/etc to Anarchie Pro. Any program that uses Internet Config to hand off http URLs will now hand them to Anarchie Pro if they look like files to be downloaded. Other URLs will still go to your normal Internet Config specified web browser.
- Add the URL of downloaded files to finder comment so you can easily remember where files came from when you need a new version. Of course, you could also search Anarchie Pro's log window.
- Show transfer mode (text/binary/macbinary) in progress window.
- Support command-Delete to delete files or folders.
- Show the recent transfer rate so you can quickly see when transfers have stalled and take appropriate action.
Anarchie Pro requires System 7, MacTCP or Open Transport, and is US$35 shareware. Upgrade from previous versions of Anarchie is US$20.
Enjoy, Peter.
